Equestrian and Activity Club & Volunteering

Junior Equestrian and Activity Club
In the 8-11’s club, our young people spend time with us learning practical skills, for example, grooming, leading and learning about the horses’ equipment.
As well as learning about horses, they will learn important life skills such as team work and communication. It’s a fantastic way to develop confidence and make new friends. When young people reach 12 they can progress into the 12-18’s club, opening up more opportunities.
The sessions cost £10 each although we can offer some discounts if;
- your home postcode is classed as being in the top 10% most deprived
- your child has any health or development conditions that impact their daily lives
- your child is seeking asylum in the UK
- your child is in the care system or adopted.

If you think one or more applies, please contact Heather or Sara on 0191 2615544 for more information.

The sessions will take place on Tuesday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and on Saturdays and Sundays 11am-1pm.

To book, simply go into your child's account and find the session.  Look forward to seeing you then.

Senior Equestrian and Activity Club and volunteering
Being a part of the 12-18s Equestrian and Activity Club means getting involved! We value our young people hugely and try to instil values of commitment and responsibility.  We do this by encouraging our young people to help with the horses, complete general yard tasks and support our beginner riders! This is a fantastic way to gain work experience, make new friends and have fun! Having this experience looks great on a CV and is looked upon favourably by employers and higher education settings!
Our 12-18s can also get involved in our holiday schedule of social events such as team building activities, sleepovers, parties, pizza nights, cooking nights, trips out, summer camps and more.

How To Get Involved

If you would like to be a part of the team please contact the office on 0191 261554.
Because the Club is so popular, we do currently have a waiting list, but please let us have your details and we'll book you in as soon as possible.

Adult Volunteering

Stepney Bank Stables is a charity dedicated to supporting young people and offering them opportunities to develop new skills and confidence. Horses have an amazing ability to provide focus and stability for many of our young people who are disadvantaged and face complex issues in their lives.

We primarily need adult volunteers who are sympathetic towards our aims and keen to support our project. Adult volunteers will receive one-to-one training when they join our project. The training helps them to develop their stable management skills and gives them a clear understanding of their role within Stepney Bank.

We currently have a number of school groups and beginners groups visiting the stables each week.  Adult volunteers play a vital role in assisting instructors by helping get horses and ponies ready for lessons and leading on the novice rides.  Providing beginners lessons is very labour intensive as every horse needs to be led by an appropriate volunteer.  On some groups with the very young or anxious we also need volunteers to walk alongside the horse or pony.
